June 2010 Updates
Northern Blend Chorus
Northern Blend Chorus has
had a busy few months. In May, we were thrilled and humbled to repeat as Area 3
chorus champions. Our quartets also had outstanding performances - Stardust took
the quartet gold medal, Vocal Point placed third and first-time area competitors
All Points North placed eighth! We also debuted our new CD, "Let's Sing!" which
features the chorus and all of our quartets. We had a wonderful time in Batavia
and we are looking forward to seeing everyone at International in Saint John.
It's been continually
busy as the chorus and quartets perform in support of many community events.
Vocal Point performed at a benefit for our local zoo, and they joined All Points
North in singing the National Anthem at Fort Drum's annual "Salute to the
Nation" on July 1st. The chorus also performed at the Ted Swan Memorial Chowder
Cookoff, a benefit for local scholarship funds. We are proud to be able to give
back to our community and support local events.
Summer may be vacation
time, but there's no rest for us. Chorus coaching will be in September and
we're in the midst of planning for our annual show, Sing Fling 8, on October
23rd. We will be hosting our CD Release & 25th Anniversary Party on August
20th, so stay tuned for more info - y'all come now, y'hear?
HEART OF
PENNSYLVANIA
Heart of Pennsylvania chorus has been extremely busy this year. In just
nine days in February, they performed for a church at their men’s annual oyster
supper, where they got a rousing standing ovation, and followed up with a Lions
Club’s sweetheart dinner and a nursing home. The next month they performed for
the 70th anniversary of a women’s civic club, again to a very warm
reception. Within two weeks of AC&C, the chorus provided entertainment for a
mother-daughter banquet, a dinner to honor volunteers at a nursing home, and a
group of retired nuns. June saw the chorus perform for a contingent of retirees
and a church’s ice cream social, which was open to the public. In addition, the
chorus has three performances scheduled in August and two more in December.
Both last year and so far this year Heart of Pennsylvania had to turn down four
requests due to conflicts. As a matter of fact, two organizations booked the
chorus a whole year in advance for this year in order to insure that the chorus
could perform for them. That and some lovely thank-you notes have been
extremely gratifying.
The Liberty Belles
Introducing the first registered quartet from the Liberty Belles, Chordial
Ladies. Members are: Tenor: Connie Minnig, Lead: Diane Davison, Bari: Lisa
Traxler, & Bass: Lois Moyer. This is the first quartet for all members. All
ladies have a choral background in a variety of music genres. Lisa Traxler has
prior Barbershop experience singing Lead for 9 years.
The quartet performed at a special presentation for a friend of one our members
who was being honored, to a standing ovation. We also sang at Lansdale Days, a
community event, and at The Sandwich Shop at the request of the owner who was
unable to attend our performance on the center stage. We sang in front of the
store to Bob (the owner) and his customers. We received payment in free ICE
CREAM ! Yum!!!

Crystal Chords
Hi I'd like to introduce
myself. My name is Mary Wallis and I am the new corresponding secretary for the
Crystal Chords replacing Sandy Hamilton-Ziegler.
Some of us attended Help Day in Batavia . We acquired a lot of useful
information for presentation and technique which we brought back to those who
couldn't attend.
We placed 4th at 2010 AC&C and also received the Rising Star award for improved
presentation. We had 2 quartets from our chorus compete and we are proud to say
that Affinity placed 2nd. Voice Message received the Cygnet Award for most
improved quartet. Needless to say we are very happy with all of our performances
and very proud of our quartets.
We are collaborating with the area Seneca Land District, Mark Twain Chapter
men's barbershoppers to put a show on in October. We are excited about this and
hope it will help make more people aware of what we are all about as well as
raise some money for us. Of course we also help it will help us get some new
members to join their voices with ours in harmony.
We will be working at the Watkins Glen International Race Way and the Wine
Festival as fundraisers to raise money for new music and costumes.
We recently did a sing out at Eldrige Park in Elmira, NY for the Chemung County
Senior Games. Even though it was a bit windy we still enjoyed ourselves and the
audience loved us.
On June 14th we will be singing for the Order of the Eastern Star at the Masonic
Temple in Horseheads, NY.
We have started a 6 week walking program where we count our steps. Prizes will
be given for those who improve the most by increasing their steps. We hope we
can get enough accumulated steps to reach from Corning/Elmira all the way to St.
John, New Brunswick. Now that's a lot of steps! The best part is it helps us
improve our health and breathing so we can sing better. And even perform the
choreography without running out of breath.
We meet every Tuesday nights to practice. You can find us on face book at
http://www.facebook.com/crystalchords We have photos of us from the 2010
AC&C and Help Day. So come check us out.
In Harmony
