Corner AUDACITY On March 1st, 2011, 63 young women, aged 9 through 18, discovered the joy of singing barbershop harmony at a one-day singing workshop held in Brantford, Ontario. Through the generous support of Harmony, Inc., Sing Canada Harmony, the Barbershop Harmony Society and Sweet Adelines International, these young women, from the Brantford and Guelph areas, were instructed in the barbershop style of singing and provided with materials and leadership necessary to continue enjoying this hobby. The day was filled with learning barbershop craft, section rehearsals, question/answer periods, fun, food and laughter. That evening, under the direction of the workshop facilitator, Jeanne O’Connor, the young women were the stars in an onstage performance! Much to the delight of the participants, a young men’s chorus, The Southern Ontario Youth Chorus, appeared on the show along with The Chord Spinners, The Over Tones and AUDACITY. Harmony Inc.’s Past President, Jan DelVecchio, emceed the performance. Thank you to everyone who supported and participated this initial endeavour! We hope all of you will continue to support us as we move ahead in providing more opportunities for youth to grow in song!
